ABOUT US
Our Suggested Annual Development Plan
☀️ Off-Season — Build the Athlete
The off-season is the most important phase for long-term development. This is where athletes build the physical and technical foundation that supports future performance. The primary focus is on strength and conditioning, improving movement quality, and reducing injury risk, alongside consistent indoor skill training.
Beach volleyball is encouraged as a supplemental form of cross-training. It can improve ball control, movement, and overall feel for the game—but for athletes focused on indoor goals, it should complement, not replace, indoor training.
Off-season priorities:
Strength & conditioning development
Movement quality and injury prevention
Technical refinement (indoor focus)
Optional beach volleyball as cross-training
🍂 School Season — Stay Intentional
The school season varies widely depending on the athlete and program. For many, it is not the most competitive phase of the year, which makes it an important opportunity to continue building.
We encourage athletes to stay consistent in the weight room, continue developing physically, and supplement their school practices with additional training when possible. Athletes who remain disciplined during this phase often separate themselves over time.
Focus during school season:
Continued strength development
Supplemental skill training where possible
Long-term growth over short-term results
❄️ Club Season — Compete & Maintain
Club season is the primary competitive phase, but development shouldn’t stop. Team environments are typically focused on system play, rotations, and team dynamics, which means there’s often limited time for individualized skill development. Athletes benefit most when they continue to train alongside their team commitments to keep progressing in their own game.
We recommend maintaining additional position-specific reps and physical training throughout the season to ensure continued development while competing.
In-season recommendations:
1–2 positional training sessions per week (schedule dependent)
1–2 strength sessions per week to maintain gains
Ongoing focus on consistency and performance
🎓 Next Level Expectations — Preparing for University Athletics
For athletes pursuing opportunities in U Sports, CCAA, NCAA, or NAIA, it’s important to understand what the next level actually looks like. Volleyball becomes a year-round commitment, balanced alongside full-time academics.
Season structure varies—Canadian programs typically compete over 8 months, while U.S. seasons are closer to 4–5 months. Athletes are expected to train both in and out of season, with a heavy emphasis on consistency and physical preparation.
During the season, a typical week often includes:
5–6 training days
Multiple sessions per day (practice, lifts, and/or individual work)
Matches twice a week on Fridays and Saturdays
One designated recovery day (usually Sundays)
At the same time, athletes are managing a full university academic course load, often with biweekly travel. The ability to stay organized, recover properly, and perform consistently becomes just as important as skill.
🧠 Rest & Long-Term Development
One of the biggest differences at the high-performance level is the importance of intentional rest. Unlike recreational athletes, you can’t sustain high output year-round without consequences. That’s why most high-level athletes should take 1–2 weeks off after their season—to recover physically, reset mentally, and prepare for the next phase. This is not time lost; it’s a necessary part of long-term development.
📈 What This Means for High School Athletes
It’s common for athletes to feel like they’re already doing a lot. But the reality is that the demands at the next level are significantly higher—often double in both volume and intensity.
The goal isn’t just to keep up—it’s to prepare.
Built for Athletes with Post-Secondary Goals
At Aspiring Athlete, our High Performance Pathway is built for athletes who love the game and have goals of competing at the post-secondary level. We provide a complete development system that goes beyond traditional club, private training and provincial teams by integrating elite volleyball coaching from national-level coaches, strength and conditioning led by a certified former NCAA Division I athlete, and experienced recruiting guidance to help athletes navigate the next stage of their careers. Every piece of our program is designed to work together, ensuring athletes are developing not just their skills, but also their physical capacity, game understanding, and long-term potential.
Our integrated model includes:
Elite volleyball training led by our national-level coaches
Strength & conditioning from a certified former Division I & CFL athlete
Recruiting guidance and long-term athlete mentorship
Our Training Philosophy
Our approach is rooted in the belief that athletes develop best in structured, high-quality group environments. Volleyball is a dynamic, decision-based sport—success depends on an athlete’s ability to read the game, react under pressure, and execute consistently. For that reason, we prioritize small group training that emphasizes game-like situations, competitive reps, and the development of volleyball IQ, while also providing a more efficient and cost-effective path for long-term development.
To support this philosophy, we offer year-round development opportunities for middle school and high school athletes. Our programming is designed to create consistency, progression, and structure across the entire year—not just within a single season.
Our programming includes:
Application-based training environments
Camps and seasonal intensives
Invite-only high performance groups
Structured strength & conditioning
Our belief is simple: athletes who train consistently, in the right environments, over time achieve the greatest results.
Individual Development Within the System
Individual work is still an important part of development—but it needs to be applied properly and should not be the primary means of development. Our national-level coaches offer private and small group lessons for athletes who are consistently working within our system. These sessions are designed to refine technique, address specific gaps, and build confidence in key areas.
What makes this effective is the process: athletes take what they’ve worked on individually and bring it back into the group environment, where those skills are reinforced by our coaching staff and applied in real-game situations.
Our Commitment
At its core, our pathway is built on a simple principle: long-term development leads to long-term success. By combining high-level coaching, structured programming, and an environment that prioritizes learning and application, we help athletes build the habits, skills, and mindset needed to succeed at the next level—and beyond.
