Strength & Conditioning

Strength and conditioning is one of the most important—and often overlooked—areas of athletic development, especially in BC. To compete at a high performance or post-secondary level, athleticism is often one of the first qualities coaches evaluate. Depending on your desired sport, the higher you can jump, the faster you can move, and the more explosive you are, the more you separate yourself from the competition.

This Fall marks an exciting new chapter for Aspiring Athlete as we've taken over the space previously known as SmartFit Personal Training. Our vision is to create more than just a gym—we're building a high-performance environment where athletes are challenged, supported, and developed every day. With programs for athletes entering Grade 6 through 12, we provide a clear pathway for long-term athletic development at every stage. A place where athletes are Built. Not Born.

Middle School Training
This program is designed for all male and female athletes entering Grade 6+ who are looking to build a strong athletic foundation. Training takes place in co-ed small groups and focuses on teaching proper movement mechanics, lifting fundamentals, body awareness, coordination, range of motion, strength, and healthy training habits in a safe, positive environment. Athletes also learn weight room etiquette, build confidence, and develop the discipline and consistency needed for long-term success, all while preparing their bodies for the physical demands of high-performance sport. Our goal is simple: teach athletes how to move well before they specialize, so they a strong physical foundation.

High School Training

This program is designed for all male and female athletes entering Grade 9+ who are serious about improving their athletic performance. Training takes place in small groups to ensure individualized coaching while maintaining a high-performance environment, with every session following a structured, progressive plan focused on developing strength, power, speed, explosiveness, movement quality, and injury resilience through proper lifting technique. Athletes can choose from a variety of training packages to fit their schedule, making it easy to train consistently throughout the off-season and build the physical foundation needed to perform at a higher level. New athletes begin with a two-session onboarding process before joining regular training groups.

Outdoor Development

Our Outdoor Athletic Training Sessions are open to male and female athletes of all sports entering Grade 7+ and are offered seasonally throughout the year when the weather permits. These group-based, drop-in sessions provide an affordable way for athletes to stay active and continue developing during the off-season. More experienced athletes can improve their speed, conditioning, change of direction, acceleration, and overall athleticism, while younger athletes build movement skills, confidence, coordination, and a strong athletic foundation in a fun, high-energy environment.

MEET YOUR TRAINER

Coach Harris understands what it takes to help young athletes reach the next level because he's lived it. As a former NCAA Division I football player at the University of South Alabama and a five-year CFL professional, he built his career through consistent training, discipline, and maximizing every physical advantage—not by relying on size or skill alone.

Today, Coach Harris leads all Strength & Conditioning at Aspiring Athlete and also serves as the Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Langley Rams. Since launching our programming, he has brought professional standards, structure, and accountability to every session. His coaching philosophy is built around developing strength, explosiveness, movement quality, confidence, and resilience while teaching athletes how to train safely and effectively for long-term success.

Our goal isn't simply to have athletes check a box by saying they completed another workout. Every session follows a structured progression with a clear purpose, and athlete development is tracked through performance testing, measurable progress, and consistent reassessments. Since introducing our program, we've watched athletes become stronger, more explosive, more confident, and more comfortable in the weight room while developing habits that will benefit them well beyond a single season. Whether it's increasing strength, improving vertical jump, moving more efficiently, or simply building confidence under the bar, we believe athletes should see the results from the work they put in.
